art shows│ MICROGALLERY pop-up Art Show&Sale, Umbrella Gallery, Dallas, TX

About the event:
MICROGALLERY is Umbrella Gallery’s biannual pop-up show, modeled after the concept made popular in New York and LA, which features local artists showing alongside each other in a salon-style exhibition of small works. Umbrella is excited to reveal our roster of cutting-edge local artists to established and burgeoning collectors, as there is something for everyone in this one-night-only event.

About Umbrella Gallery:
Umbrella is an art gallery that exists within the cultural center of Life in Deep Ellum, an organization built on the idea that vibrant community exists where individuality is celebrated, and all are welcome. It is a space for exploration, a place to stretch and to grow for both established and emerging artists. Due to its non-commercial status, Umbrella opens the door for artists to try something new, to push their artistic limits, and to exhibit this experimental spirit freely. Its unique functionality, size, and shape offer an opportunity to produce bodies of work that both stand out from and harmonize with the gallery space itself.

Rising Star 2016 at Turner House │September 17, Dallas TX, U.S.

I arrived 40 minutes late for the VIP/artist Reception on Saturday evening September 17, but it was enough for me to hear all the kind words and congratulations on my works. Oh no, I couldn't have borne the weight of the compliments any longer... I think, for the first time, I felt so strangely embarrassed to listen to all those VIP people from art scene offering me nothing but words of true admiration. I still feel embarrassed today at the mere thought of what I was told that evening.

I can't express how pleased, honored and humble I am by the nomination by Craighead Green Gallery for the "Rising Star" exhibition at Turner House.

About "Rising Star":
The 4th ANNUAL “RISING STAR” EXHIBITION & FUNDRAISER will showcase 11 Emerging Artists Nominated by Top Dallas Galleries.

Turner House, (the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts) will present its fourth annual “Rising Star”, which promotes undiscovered talent and raises funds in their continuing efforts to restore Turner House September 17 and 18 at the historic Oak Cliff home.

Eleven prestigious Dallas galleries have each nominated one emerging Texas artist who is not yet represented by a gallery to be in the group show. Participating galleries and nominated artists are: Barry Whistler Gallery (Cassandra Black); Conduit Gallery (Lindsey Brown); Craighead Green Gallery (Angelika Ejtel); Galleri Urbane (Lynné Bowman Cravens); Holly Johnson Gallery (Megan DeSoto); JM Gallery (Jenna Fredde); Kirk Hopper Fine Art (Analise Minjarez); Liliana Bloch Gallery (Christina Kellum); Mary Tomás Gallery (Nik Hermanovoski); Russell Tether Gallery (Jody Martin); and Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden (Melissa Mohammadi).

This year’s theme for Rising Star is "Then and Now" as the organization is celebrating the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts. The Society was established in Dallas in 1926 at the home studio of Frank Reaugh, one of Texas’ most famous and influential artist. For those 90 years OCSFA has sought to keep the flame of art along with historic preservation alive in Oak Cliff. To celebrate the anniversary and to honor Reaugh and other artist of his time, they are exhibiting works by Rising Star of the 1920’s art world in Dallas alongside Rising Star of today.

According to artist Kenda North, co-chair of the event, the 100-year-old Turner House has a long history of showcasing Texas artists. “Rising Star is an effort to continue that tradition and draw attention to some exciting new artists who are just beginning to gain attention in the art community, including such past Rising Stars as Diana Antohe, Spencer Evans, and Shawn Samuell,” she said.

About Turner House:

Turner House has been hosting art exhibits for more than 80 years, including recent exhibits highlighting works of The Dallas Nine, Women Artists of the Texas Centennial, and works by contemporary Oak Cliff artists. Located in the Winnetka Heights section of Oak Cliff, Turner House promotes the arts, celebrates life events, fosters community connections, and preserves history. It is known for its annual Salon Series, celebrating music, art, and architecture, as well as free community-focused events such as Movies on the Lawn. The organization received the 2013 Stewardship Award from Preservation Dallas for its decades-long commitment to historic preservation.

When and where:

A fundraiser reception will be held Saturday, September 17 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and will include speakers David Dike and Ted Kincaid. Ticket prices are $85 per person ($50 for Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts members.) Sponsorships are available and tickets may be purchased at the door. A public reception will be Sunday, September 18 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Turner House, 401 N. Rosemont, Dallas, 75208.
