The first day of the festival I wanted to wear an outfit in my national colours, but it only caused me some trouble: a lot of viewers asked me to have a photo with them because I looked Polish and "cute". I had a feeling that I posed so much that I didn't think to take too many photographs of myself that afternoon. I also had about one-hour delay with setting up my display due to being nice and letting people take pictures of me, but I came there for them and for my country after all.

Bremond Polish Festival Days│Beauty Pageant

June 24, 2016
 Bremond, TX

I had a very good view on everything what was going on on the main stage as my tent was just next to it (thank you, dear Tessy, for the best location ever!). I only set up my display when a crowd started flowing in front of the main stage waiting impatiently for the Polish Festival Days Beauty Pageant. These little dancers were there, too. Oh, and some were even ready to pose for me.

I noticed them sitting there near the main stage all cheerful wearing these pretty shirts. I thought:"What a lovely American-Polish couple!" seeing American and Polish flags united in their outfits. Only a few seconds later I realized it was just a Texas flag. Silly me!

Bremond Polish Festival Days│ at the Historical Museum

I believe she was the most important person I met in Bremond during my two-day stay. When I saw her in the museum, I spoke to her in Polish: "Czy mówi Pani po polsku?(Eng. Do you speak Polish?), but she didn't understand my question. I realized right away she didn't speak either. Sadly, almost no one spoke in Bremond- a small Texas town with Polish roots; the town which was once the largest Polish settlement in Texas.

She was the one who put some balm to my Polish bleeding heart by telling me her story, the story of her family. She was the first to explain me why she didn't speak Polish, although she was fully Polish. I recordered every single word of hers and wanted to share it with you, but I made a silly mistake, and only a day after I realized that my video didn't have sound. I can't tell you how this fact saddened me. She was a true storyteller and I could even learn by heart everything she told me. It was such a beautiful emotional story that only very few people can tell the way she did. I think I will have to go back to Bremond next year and ask her to tell me everything again.

I woke up the second day of the festival and saw this rural panorama from the window of my hotel room. I could have spent a whole day shooting there, but unfortunately, I didn't have even 5 minutes to enjoy all that beauty in front of my eyes (and not even 7 hours of good sleep). Ah, so bad...

art show│pARTy on Crockett (post IV)

June 18, 2016
Fort Worth, TX

Crockett Street in Fort Worth is one of the most vibrant streets I've known so far.

Well, strangely it is not an unposed picture of me. My outfit and different hairstyle attracted many random smartphone "photographers" (this is at least what they were telling me). Being constantly "shot" by others made me tired to take pictures of myself. The exposure was quite significant. Just before the sunset I felt like taking a few quick shots myself and even at that time I wasn't left alone. Kaili (I guess a Chinese woman who wasn't interested in anything I had on display but me) asked me to repeat that pose for her which immediately seemed weird to me. My first impressions weren't wrong; they rarely are. The next day she used my saved e-mail address to send her phone number...

June 18, 2016
Fort Worth, TX

It was so far my longest 10-hour art show (from 12 PM to 10 PM), but it wasn't an achievement; what was an achievement was staying for over 12 hours outdoors in hot Texan summer!!!  If not Elaine's good intentions, I would have stayed for over 16 hours outdoors! Thank you so much, Elaine, for allowing me to come just an hour before the show started. You saved my life...

I find the message of this artwork quite dangerous:a bottle of wine, nicely shaped girl wearing scanty underwear all by herself, and these buttocks, tense buttocks.

I had to bring these little things for the Opening Reception. I feel like viewers have the right to know a little bit about the author. Oh, and the card holder is all natural and "DIY". It took just 2 minutes to make it. Hahaha

I felt very very honoured to have gotten a huge wall for displaying just my three works (20"X20" framed) whereas there were so many others that deserved a special space, too. Due to the large amount of artworks, the exhibition was hung "salon" style. Seeing so much freedom left for them felt almost like paying a particular attention to me.
Thank you so much, 500x Gallery, for this recognition!

I was posing here for two people. I consider this portrait unposed though for the photographer who didn't capture my gaze. I like it for some reasons.

It was the first Opening Reception I could attend, where my works were exhibited; and because it was the first one I thought I should have been on time. Alas! I need to discipline myself more, I guess...

Oh yesss! It was indeed HOTTT and SWEATY, and it wasn't only because of what my eyes have seen that night. Actually, I believe it was the "hottest" exhibition I've ever attended in Texan summer without AC. Phew!

success is not final, failure is not fatal │a letter from New York

I was feeling very afraid that day. I wasn't sure if it was a good decision, but once again I risked everything.  Every little success in my life was first a risk.

New Orleans 2015│ Crawfish soirée (post II)

"Crawfish soirée"
May 1st, 2015
New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.

Louisiana has plenty of stories about food, for some tourists it could be a perfect culinary destination. There is a saying there: we don't eat to live-we live to eat which is exactly the opposite of what my father used to teach me...

Every Louisiana dish tells a story. Going back 300 years, American Indians took time to introduce European settlers to sassafras leaves, used to make filé, an important ingredient for gumbo. The Canadians exiles known as Acadians, or Cajuns brought theirs recipes to Louisiana and adapted to her rich seafood: lobster dishes became crawfish dishes, redfish was substituted for salmon and so on. The name "jambalaya" is a combination of the French word for ham (jambon) and an African word for rice (ya-ya). Louisiana Creole cuisine is really multicultural. Their dishes are even celebrated in songs.

My personal theory on a healthy diet is quite complicated. Anyway, yes, I risked to have dinner in this restaurant which was purely seafood oriented.

It was my first time. I needed a demonstration how to eat it.
Dirty, dirty hands. Spicy, spicy crawfish. Nice, nice dinner.

art show│"For The Love of Birds and Art" presented by Aves and The World (post VIII)

June 4th, 2016
Texas Woman's University Hubbard Hall
Denton TX

I was proud of myself that I'd arrived about an hour before the art show started to set up everything and thought that I had never had so much time. In fact, I had to walk through three huge ballrooms carrying quite heavy things and do that many times to reach my spot. My display was ready only 5 minutes before 7 PM. Thank God I took this little dress and lighter shoes to the car at the last moment; otherwise it would have been quite a pain...

By the way, in the video you can see Karen Eliza Aguilar and Leona Perez working on their set-up.

I was asked to set up my display in circle. Here you can just see four out of six framed prints 18"X18". I put wide angle lens on my phone only later, but light wasn't that pleasant anymore.

This time I didn't have to ask too much for signing my guestbook or subscribing for my e-newsletter, and what's more there was even a line like never before for both. I have over fifty interested people in getting news about my work. I think I will start writing an e-newsletter, hopefully on a regular basis.

I thank all incredible audience for such a wonderful response to my works and your precious interest.I didn't expect so much...

I was truly honoured by the invitation to take a part in "For The Love Of Birds and Art" exhibit presented by Aves and The World: a bird inspired art exhibition featuring artwork from over 100 talented artists. The artists involved in the project journeyed with the 2015 TWU Summer Experiential Student Scholar Program scholarship winner last summer to explore several local environmental places in order to gain inspiration for their artwork.
